What to wear for your next personal brand photoshoot - 5 tips with pictures!

Everyone wants to look their best in the photos…

…especially when they have invested in professional photography to help them take their business to the next level. With so many options to choose from, deciding what to wear on a normal day can be a daunting task. So I can empathize with my clients when they tell me, they need help deciding what outfit they should choose and how many outfits should opt-in for during their photoshoot.

I am here for you and I want to help because I want you to love your next photoshoot look. As it is my mission to create beautiful branded photography for the ambitious woman, so she can worry less about attracting ideal clients because the photos do it for her!

Without further ado - here are my top 5 ways to decide what to wear for your photoshoot -

  • Wear what you feel good in! -

    1. Choose clothes that fit well and that flatter your body type. Unsure of what your body type is? Checkout this webinar I collaborated on with stylist Gabby Eckart - she breaks down a few different body shapes - with outfit inspiration!

  • Don’t over complicate it, shop your closet first -

    • Start with your favorite dress, shirt, skirt…and then try your outfit on a week prior to your shoot (if possible) this will give you time to determine if you want to buy something new. Feel free to engage your photographer in the process, chances are she would love to help. (I know I do!)

  • Think about your brand and your ideal client -

    • What style resonates with the image you are portraying? For example - if you are a yoga instructor wearing a bright red suit might not be in alignment with the image of your brand. And vice versa, if you are a corporate tax lawyer, athleisure wear may not be the best option!

  • Choose solid colors when possible -

    • Don’t get me wrong, I love a good leopard print from time to time; but that doesn’t always reflect well on camera. Busy patterns can distract away from the most important part of the image - you! Also, while trendy patterns can be fun, they also do not stay in fashion as long; so unless fashion trends are a key part of your business, opt for more classic looks that will ensure your photos do not go out of style. Wondering what colors are popular for 2022; check out this article (hint; bright pink, olive green and sky blue are in this mix!)

  • Create a Pinterest inspiration board -

    • If you have a certain look that suits your brand, but aren’t sure how it looks on camera, browse Pinterest for inspiration. This not only will help you with your outfit, but if you share the board with your photographer it can help ensure they create the brand aesthetic you are going for on shoot day!
